Take-Out Tokens

I got a bit of a late start this morning (getting back into the work routine is always a bit rough when you’ve been off for nearly two weeks), so I didn’t have time to prepare my usual oatmeal (the richness of the protein powder I mix in causes it to take longer for me to eat). Instead, I just threw some pecans and blueberries into some instant high-fiber Quaker Oats and chugged down a quick protein shake of water and Max Pro Chocolate. Better than a bowl of plain old cereal, right? I also woke up to discover that in my exhaustion last night, I left our yummy leftovers from Benihana out on the kitchen counter 🙁 , so I had to throw something much less delicious together for lunch today (3oz Turkey Breast, Baby Carrots and 1/2 cup of Unsweetened Applesauce). I probably needed to take in some more carbs at lunch though, because I was feeling a little ravenous after work post-snack and may have consumed a few Nana’s tortillas chips and a few tablespoons of queso.

For dinner, since today is my awesome husband Z’s birthday, we enjoyed another dinner out, this time at Si Señor. I PROMISE this is not some terrible trend toward eating out every night. We have two planned meals out this month: Benihana last night and we are ordering pizza on Saturday for get-together with friends, but how can I deny a man red chile and tamales on his birthday (other than defrosting the red chile and tamales in my freezer…)?

Take-Out Tokens

We have agreed to implement a new “Token” system for limiting our dining out. Every month we will each get two tokens apiece – one for a dinner and one for a lunch. The lunches are so we can go out together during the work week twice a month and the dinners are so we can phone it in twice a month. That gives us four times per month where I can choose to indulge a bit and we both get a break from cooking or eating the same ol’ same ol’ for lunch. It also cuts back on the egregious amount of money we spent on dining out last year.

I haven’t made the tokens yet – planning on doing that this weekend. Here’s hoping it’s a plan we can stick with!

No workout today – not feeling that great and I’ve had a sinus headache all day – but I’ll be back to it tomorrow. I’m going to run out of episodes of Glee pretty soon… Any suggestions for shows to watch on Hulu or Netflix during my stationary cardio workouts? Put them in the comments!
